Sunday 1 March 2020 – Year 11 and 12 Music Workshop

FSO joined once again with Prof. Alan Lourens and UWA to present a workshop style concert for ATAR music students from across Perth.

Sunday 1 March | 10am-1pm | Callaway Music Auditorium

Sight-reading sessions

  • Okay, not a concert.

  • Between June and August 2020, while we weren’t able to hold public concerts due to COVID-19 restrictions, the orchestra kept itself amused on Wednesday nights with weekly sight-reading sessions.

  • We played some wonderful and challenging repertoire, including Brahms – Symphonies no. 2 and 4; Beethoven – Symphonies 1, 5 and 7; Ravel – Le Tombeau de Couperin; Stamitz – Clarinet Concerto no. 3; Mendelssohn – Hebrides Overture; Grieg – Peer Gynt Suite; Schumann – Symphony no. 2; Ravel – Mother Goose Suite; Tchaikovsky – Romeo and Juliet Overture and Symphony No 4; Verdi – Force of Destiny Overture; Dvorak – Symphony. no.9; Borodin – On the steppes of Central Asia and Polovetsian Dances; Schubert – Symphony no. 8; Humperdinck – Hansel & Gretel Overture; Sibelius – Swan of Tuonela; Franck – Symphony in D minor.

  • The sessions also gave us a chance to work with guest conductors Jen Winley, Elise Chong and Craig Dalton

Wednesday 23 September 2020  – Mahler 4

  • The orchestra hosted an informal open rehearsal-performance of Mahler Symphony No 4, at Leckie Hall.

  • Conductor: David Pye
