History of the Fremantle Symphony Orchestra

“As Music Director and Conductor for ten years of a previous incarnation, the Melville Symphony Orchestra (1973 – 1982), it is a privilege to provide a foreword for the 60th anniversary celebrations of the Fremantle Symphony Orchestra. By the end of my tenure, it was satisfying to know that when I left, the orchestra had evolved into a secure, solid unit. We oversaw the transformation of Melville to the Nedlands Symphony Orchestra in 1981.  Since then, it has become the Fremantle Symphony Orchestra. That it continues to grow, expand and flourish is wonderful, and I am positive David Pye must take much of the credit for the position in which it now finds itself.

Community orchestras perform a valuable service and are a very necessary part of our community.  I wish the orchestra every success in these celebrations, and also for its continued activities.”
